| VIDEO: 3 new bedroom jams! |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|09:28 pm] |
I am back with more videos. Listen up, I thought I'd stop crying for a new audio interface and just hook up my old firewire audio device to my laptop and run my vocals and guitar through GARAGEBAND. I've never even loaded up GarageBand before in my life since I thought I was above it. But here I was desperate for a Mac audio recording app. This one comes with the Mac OS. One of the guitar presets inspired me to play the following dreamy tunes...
(recorded using Photobooth which is a Mac app that comes with the Mac OS)
Starting off with a cover song called "Paris and Rome" by THE CRANES. I picked this song because its chord progression is very similar to one of my tunes "Freakshow" and so I thought it'd be easy to learn and play. Just so you know, half of the songs I write has this chord progression. The two chords. That chord progression. I don't know much music theory so that's all I can explain.
At the end is actually a plushie of L, not Light. This guy's from DEATH NOTE. I knew it was L, so I'm not sure why I said "Light". It's not mine. I would never sleep with stuffed toys. I should've punched L in his face at the end out of frustration for screwing up.
Compare with the original song by THE CRANES.
These next songs will NOT be on the debut full length album "Go Home", but will probably be on the second full length album which I do plan on making right after "Go Home".
Here, we have a song called "Ride" which I named after the shoegazer pop band from the 90s called RIDE. This was one of the first songs I wrote in my life. I've played this song at gigs a few times.
Lastly, we have a song called "Adororo" which was inspired by a Japanese movie I saw called "Dororo". This is one of the last songs I wrote in my life and I wrote it after I stopped playing shows so I've never played it live before. It's one of my favourite songs to play on the guitar, but too bad I play it like an old lady in this video, eh.
I wanted to share these videos because I'll be turning these downtempo dreampop songs into dance tunes. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's NAVEL4EVE! The dancey music band.
Here are some pictures:
 Looking normal.
This one is so cheezy, but good enough for me.
p.s. I have not tuned this guitar since I first got it months ago cuz it sounds in tune to me! |

| I'm looking for a gym..any suggestions? |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|06:22 pm] |
Hey everyone, I have been wanting to really get back into shape so I want to get a gym membership. I live in the Mcgill ghetto and don't have a car so someplace close by would be awesome. I am a bit picky about the prices too since I'm on a tight budget, so the cheaper the better.
The ideal place would not be crowded and not too loud. No university gyms (im not a student, so its not cheaper for me) or La cite either, since they are always crowded and distracting.
Where I lived before, I went to a place called snap fitness..it was my dream gym..small, clean and literally empty at times (maybe since it was a new place). Never had to wait for anything. Had all the needed equipment too. I loved it. They don't have any gyms in montreal. I am a guy, so obviously not something for women only..lol. Any suggestions?? Also, do you have to sign a contract? Thanks:)) |

| anyone planning a move? |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|11:45 am] |
I have a WHOLE lotta boxes that need to be gotten rid of. The moving company didn't want to take them back, and I'd really rather not put them out with the recycling if I can avoid it.
Is anyone out there planning a move, and in need of boxes? Are there any organizations that would make use of these boxes?
I have maybe 50-60 boxes, each 18"x16"x12" ... plus one closet box. |

| apartment! |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|10:41 am] |
Apartment up for grabs mid-Dec! (potentially Jan 1 if no one takes it before)
The basics: 2 1/2 (but both rooms are really huge) 685 a month St Denis half a block up from Rosemont- literally one or two minutes walk from the the Rosemont metro station. on the top floor of one of those 3-floor places. two smallish balconies, one at the front, one at the back. lots of light, good air circulation skylight in the bathroom!
more stuff: Filling this apartment is not my responsibility in any way, so the reason I'm advertising this place is this- my boyfriend and I live on the other side of the building, and we have a big common wall with the advertised apartment. We're musicians (students, freelancers), both clarinet and bass clarinet mostly, we enjoy being able to practice at home. We'd like this to continue this if at all possible, so we're looking for someone who's cool with a little music-related noise during the day. The noise insulation between the apartments is pretty good, our neighbours have never complained (our current and past neighbours have actually comment often that they enjoy it), we keep the practicing to sane hours (ie, 9 am-9/10pm on weekdays, a bit later start on weekends), we only do it for a few hours a day, and I often practice outside of the home if I can. So it's totally not a big deal, and we're not expecting to have trouble, but I'm hoping by advertising this that we're upping our chance of getting someone who we'll get along well with. If you're another musician looking for a practice-friendly spot, all the better, but all are welcome, clearly.
more about the apartment- The new landlords have had this place since the spring and they're super-cool and good about getting stuff done quick. The neighbourhood isn't the prettiest but I really like it. A couple of organic food stores, lots of funky music venues and an art gallery closeby, Jean Talon market is also very close.. the bar on the corner has the best poutine I've ever had, and even has vegetarian. It's quiet at night. There's a gym across the street. It's pet friendly. It was repainted and given some general TLC in the spring. Plateau, Mile end, Little Italy all within walking distance. I'm a student at Concordia and it takes me an average of about 20 mins to get to the downtown campus, although I've made it in 10 before with killer connections. McGill would be about the same or slightly faster, so if you go to either it would be a good spot for you. Probably U de M would also be pretty quick what with the blue line close too.
Message/comment if interested. I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have or show you some pics. We're actually living in the advertised apartment now and are moving to the other side, so I know the apartment intimately.
The place is kind of designed for one person, but if you are, like us, a couple and really cheap and don't mind squishing a little, it's good too. We found it a bit tight but we both work from home, but it might be great for you if one or both of you leaves the house more.
(p.s. we shared our internet with our former neighbour, bonus if you're also into that)
