For me, anyway.

I'm not really interested in posting anything here anymore. I barely even check my friends list. I'm not going to delete anything, 'cause that's pointless, but if anybody is still paying any attention, don't expect any updates here.

I'm proud to say that I'm also over my addiction to Stillepost. I just got disgusted with all the misogyny and homophobia and nastiness.

Other ways to keep in touch:

FACEBOOK
http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=740690593

AGAINST LANGUAGE BLOG
http://againstlanguage.blogspot.com/
Here I post about upcoming events and other projects I'm working on.

TUMBLR PHOTO BLOG
http://nomorewords.tumblr.com/
This is my new addiction, wherein I sort through my various obsessions by posting images with little or no textual commentary. Think of it as a visual code. There is "meaning" but it won't be communicated in words.

GOOD OLD-FASHIONED EMAIL
corpsesasbedmates at gmail dot com.
I love receiving e-mail.
2:09 a.m. I should probably go to bed.

Tonight, instead of going to see a show, I stayed home and watched Live Free or Die Hard.
It was better than I expected it to be.

Other things I did today:
-thing
-write
-read
-walk
-eat
-play records
-re-watch episodes of Avatar
-play guitar
-etc.

I kinda wish I had said no to the DJ gig at that Eastern Bloc party. I feel a bit like a fraud. All these other DJs are going to be doing all this fancy shit and I'm just going to play records. I can't decide what records to bring. Half an hour is such a short time. Every song counts.

My phone's dead. I guess I should mention that. I never pay my bills.

Oh, I bought a real DJ mixer today.
Some stuff coming up. Some of which I'm involved in, some of which I just want to attend.

PALIMPSEST

About a year ago, I made a list of project ideas I wanted to work on either by myself or with what was then the lab.synthèse collective. Many of those projects did come to fruition (recording an album, the Monday Night Screenings, etc.), but some of them I never had a chance to develop. Of those that never saw the light of day, the one I was most enthusiastic about was what I referred to as a "magazine (or sometimes gallery) in a box." It was inspired by Aspen Magazine, which I discovered on Ubu.com. The idea was to curate each edition around a theme. I wanted to make it a quarterly, alternating between online and physical editions, both of which would consist of works in different media (writing, photography, prints, sound, video, etc.). The online edition would go straight to the website and be accessible for free. The physical edition would be packaged in a box and sold.

I never really abandoned the idea, but the timing just wasn't right, so I stored it in the back of my mind and figured I would return to it one day. Then, a friend of mine told me about a project she was working on with a bunch of other people, and when she sent me the link for it, I was amazed to find out that it was almost exactly the same thing that I had imagined at year ago. They even mention Aspen as a source of inspiration in their call for submissions!

Well, someone else beat me to it, but although I won't have the kind of creative control that I would've had if I'd started the project myself, there's no reason why I shouldn't join them and use this opportunity to make the most of it. I'm just glad that someone is doing it, and to be honest, I don't have time (or the resources) to do this on my own anyway, so this is probably a better deal.

I'm meeting with the board of editors tomorrow to find out how I can get involved. They're still in the process of reviewing submissions for the first issue, which has an urban/rural theme. More info will follow.

*

MONTREAL KNOWS NO WAVE, NO? NO!

Grand Trine and Dead Wife, two bands that friends and/or acquaintances of mine have recently started, are playing the MKNWN?N! series at Casa this month. I've heard really good things about both of them and I'm looking forward to catching them live.

Thursday, January 29, 10 p.m. Casa del Popolo.

*

LOVE+HATE

This is the party at Eastern Bloc where I'll be DJing, mentioned earlier. Here's their description of it:

"Montreal loves to hate Toronto and Toronto hates to love Montreal
Valentines Day Music Battle between Montreal & Toronto
Friday, February 13"

That's it for now. I imagine there'll be a poster and more details eventually. I'll post them when I have them.

*

AGNST LNGGE

I'm putting together a few shows over the next couple of months to help out some people from out of town.

First, Kram Ran is coming from Winnipeg in February. He'll be playing at Bar St-Laurent on February 18, with Monkey King, The Great Vowel Shift (that's me) and Gmackrr. Then, Sebastian is booking another show for him at Lab Synthèse, with Andy White and some other folks.

Then, in March, an artist from Helsinki called Marko Timlin is visiting for a few days. I've got a show booked for him at Cagibi with Ensemble Pamplemousse (from NYC) and Louis Dufort (MTL), and I'm working on a line-up for another show at Lab Synthèse, which will hopefully involve some more visual components, such as video projections, etc. I'd also like to have a bit of an interactive feel for the show at the Lab. I'm still working on that. Dates for that are March 20th (Lab) and 21st (Cagibi).

*

NAMELESS BAND

Then, on April 1st, my nameless band is performing its first show at Casa del Popolo. Still need to book other people for that. And also we need to come up with a name. More importantly, we need to write some songs. Yikes.
